May Right Now Report
It can be daunting to try and keep up with new trends, updates and best practices, while you are managing everything else that goes into running an organization.
At Right Relations we are the marketing experts so you don’t have to be. We created the Right Now Report to give you the high-level updates you need without the unnecessary clutter. In the May Report, we cover short-form content, Lemon8, tips for optimizing your emails and if you should be using old-school clip art in your graphics.
Short-form Content is a Must-Have
Short videos are crucial for any digital marketing strategy, given the prevalence of TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. These platforms are developing new features to make it easier to share such content. For instance, YouTube has an ‘Edit into a Short’ option that allows users to select a part of their full-length video and edit it down to a video that’s one minute or less. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, recently announced that they’ve made the Reels editing process simpler by including video clips, audio, stickers and text all on one screen as you’re editing.
If you’re not already incorporating short videos into your social media, it’s a great time to start! Don’t forget to take advantage of the features these platforms provide to make sharing short-form content even easier.
Look Who Just Moved In! Lemon8
Is the newest social media platform Lemon8 something you should be integrating into your content plan? As with any new trend, the answer is…complicated. First off, Lemon8 is owned by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, so it’s possible it will face similar scrutiny.
Additionally, it’s a visual platform that has been compared to both Instagram and Pinterest. For arts nonprofits and other arts organizations, there are ways you can share your content in a fun, innovative way. But who exactly is it for? Here’s how Lemon8 describes their role on the App Store, “Lemon8 is a content sharing platform with a youthful community. Here is where you can discover beautiful, authentic, and diverse content. It is THE destination for sharing and exploring.” At this point, a lot of the content appears to be coming from content creators and individuals, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a place on the app for organizations too.
We know how hectic your day-to-day is and it’s likely not going to make or break your content strategy. It’s a great idea to secure your organization’s handle and if you feel inclined poke around a bit so you’re in the know. But, don’t fret if you don’t have the time to pour into a new platform.
Poorly Designed Ads are Going Viral
Major brands like Crocs and Cinnabon are playing into the fad of pretending as if their graphic designer is on vacation. These types of ads and posts quickly become viral, but it’s unlikely that smaller organizations will have the same success. Part of the virality of these graphics is that they’re shared by brands that have major name recognition and this gimmick isn’t going to affect that. Most small business and nonprofit organizations don’t have the same level of general consumer trust.
