March Right Now Report

It can be daunting to try and keep up with new trends, updates, and best practices, while you are managing everything else that goes into running an organization.

At Right Relations we are the marketing experts so you don’t have to be. We created the Right Now Report to give you the high-level updates you need without the unnecessary clutter. In the March report, we cover Meta’s new paid service, Google Analytics’ upcoming switch to GA4, and the rising popularity of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in marketing.

Meta to roll out Premium Subscription

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram,  announced they are creating a paid service called Meta Verified. The cost is $11.99 a month and it essentially allows everyday users to get “verified” meaning they will have a blue check mark beside their name like well-known figures on Facebook and Instagram.

Meta has shared that there will be other features that increase visibility, but it’s unclear what sort of boost in audience those features will provide. The target audience for this premium subscription level is influencers and content creators. These people are making their livelihoods on these platforms. This feature wasn’t created with nonprofits in mind and likely isn’t something you’ll need to prioritize. We’ll continue to keep an eye on news and updates as this subscription model grows and share how it might fit into a marketing plan for nonprofits in the future.

Google will switch over Analytics accounts beginning in March

Google Analytics tracks and reports website data, but they’re updating their internal tracking systems. Most Google Analytics accounts are currently using Universal Analytics but will need to switch to Google Analytics 4 by July 1, 2023, if they haven’t already. This requirement was first announced on March 16, 2022.

Google encourages users to switch to Google Analytics 4 as soon as possible. However, beginning next month, if you haven’t already created a GA4 property, Google announced in February 2023 that they will create one for you unless you opt-out. If your web developer can’t make the switch for you, Google will make the switch on your behalf, but they do caution users, “We strongly recommend you manually migrate your Universal Analytics settings to GA4. If you do nothing, a new GA4 property will automatically be created for you, and your Universal Analytics configurations will be copied to the new GA4 property.” They went on to say, “Not all UA configurations have an obvious GA4 counterpart, and the automated process might not make the same choices as you would.”

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are on the rise

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are becoming increasingly popular due to their ability to automate tasks and work faster than humans through machine learning. AI can now even write social media posts and other marketing materials. ChatGPT is one of the most well-known tools, but even Canva has a “Magic Write” feature that was created specifically for marketing.

If you’re exploring any of these tools, our biggest caution is to make sure that you don’t share anything publicly that is purely generated through AI without thoroughly reviewing it and making any necessary edits for accuracy and tone. We’ve seen how automating the first step of the writing process can save time, but often these drafts do sound like they were written by a computer so adding humanity back into any writing is important and will help to keep your mission at the forefront of your content.
